FIVE PATHS
FIVE PATHS FOR PERSONSAL TRANSFORMATION
What makes USM different from many organizations and movements is its emphasis on the personal transformation of its members before they venture into activities for social transformation. The members are asked to practice the principles before preaching them to others. The conscious practice of the Five Paths for Personal Transformation is mandatory for all the members. These are:
- Pray daily for peace and forgiveness to be an agent of peace and reconciliation.
- Skip a meal a week to express solidarity with the hungry and contribute the savings to the poor and the needy.
- Do a good deed a day without any selfish motive to develop loving concern for the nation.
- Honour parents, teachers and all human beings
- Respect the earth and save its resources
10 POINT ACTION PROGRAMME FOR SOCIAL TRANSFORMATION
The Movement addresses issues affecting the lives of citizens and takes up constructive action programs. This is called the 10-Point Action Program for social transformation. Members and groups take up these action programmes with the purpose of transforming society. Through these activities, children and animators develop in themselves sensitivity to the needy and concern for common good. The 10- Point Action Programs are the following:
- Enlightened Leadership: Activities for developing leaders with character and competence.
- Empowering Women: Activities for enhancing the respect for women and seeing them as equal in all spheres of life.
- Caring and Sharing: Activities for expressing concern for the needy and less privileged and sharing resources with them.
- Art and Culture: Activities for promoting artistic and cultural ethos of the country without being prejudiced to the noble elements of other cultures.
- Light and Life: Activities for promoting blood donation and eye donation.

THE EMBLEM OF USM
The Emblem presents spiritual values of USM in graphics. The bottom lines represent ocean which is deep, dynamic and rich. A spiritual person will be deep in his thinking and reflection. He /she will be dynamic, creative and rich in his values. The curved lines which stand above the bottom lines represent a mountain which is strong, tall and unshakable even if it is hit by storms. A person with spirituality will be like an unshakable mountain despite crisis and opposition. The universal tree, represented here as a single leaf on a stem arising from the depths, stands for the entire expression of Srishti. The stem symbolizes the upright person who lives and grows according to spiritual values. He/she neither bows before anyone nor succumb to any pressure. The wheel, the chakra, symbolizes the movement and extension of spirituality from inner to outer space through creative life and its manifestation. The spokes in the wheel symbolize unity and diversity. As every spoke is essential for the integrity and existence of the wheel, people of different caste, colour and creed are essential for the growth of any nation. An inclusive spirituality is the need of the hour. In the background, the distinct colours of a rainbow and the religious symbols manifest the commitment of USM to preserve the identity of different religions, cultures and other diversity.
